the number of butons and thumbsticks it carries is truly amazing BUT make it so big on the top and so topheavy. not to mention that on the thruster alone you have 5 buttons, 4 axis controls!, a mouse!! with click buton and a thumb stick!! its just amazing! i would buy the saitek kit just for the thruster. guys the feeling playing elite without it and with it is like night and day. it has so many details, as you move it to the edge your engines hish and just before the end you can feel a small gap that stops you just before 100%, then push a little more and you have max power, then use one of the 5 buttons you have on your thumb and afterburner hits. the thruster gives the best feeling of power you can get. hundreds of buttons in your grasp without even moving your hand, only your fingers. *keep that point as its the one that gives FF2 its edge against the saitek. And the best of it is that the motors-sensors feel the slightest of input, so you can make so slight adjustments that you can literaly snipe enemy ships from 3000m away in elite. its sharp and quick to listen to your moves. the stick itseld is very light so you can roll it with ease and the 2 motors inside that do the work the spring does in saiteks base, keep the FF2 tight with no "grey zones". its grip is so natural that you can play for hours without any tiresness or aches. although the design is not as wild and aggressive as the saitek its ergonomics are PERFECT! microsoft nailed that. So lets continue with FF2's feeling as a stick. The recongnition is instant and extremely fast, its almost as fast as moving your finger to hit a button.
everything else in game is done with voice. Beleive it or not i only use 4 butons on the joystcik now. So with voiceattack the main drawback of the Sidewinder FF2, its lack of buttons, is gone. the womans voice you hear is notwithin elite, its from the program. Its recongnition is super, i have a weird accent but it understands all my commands with 99% success.Īlso as you see on the video you can have the program "speak" to you whatever you like after you succesfully give it an order. You setup whatever word or phrase you want and ma them with whatever keyboard button you want or keyboard buttons. If you dont know that program its just magical. i set it up as best as i could, BUT the 8 buttons and only 1 thumbstick it has are not enough in modern games. I've been using the Microsoft FF2 for 15 years i know it by heart. What are they like in game? i used the latest and greatest in space sims (until Arena commander is released ofcourse :-P ), Elite Dangerous premium beta. I would have to say that saitek has 2-3 plastics on the stick only that feel a little cheap but nothing alarming. the plastics are great, the feeling and ergonomics are top quality. In this point i would like to say a word about the quality of the products.

In contrast Sidewinder FF2 is not typically supported by windows 7 so there is actually no way to set it up from withing windows (how ironic is that, a microsoft hardware not supported by its OS :-( ) Nevertheless it works perfectly in all games and can be setup within the games.

I have to say the drivers are perfect and the profile program is amazing, you can make profiles, setup all the buttons and rudders and even change led colors in most of the buttons. SO!!! i will tell you my personal thoughts on BOTH the Microsoft and the saitek.Īfter got the saitek i immediately installed the drivers and managed my profile. he got it some years ago as a gift himself but he never plays simulations. So lately a friend of mine gifted me his as he never uses it. Nevertheless i always wanted a HOTAS saitek x52 pro. it has 8 buttons, an extra mini thumb stick and a throttle control. i've been using my Microsoft sidewinder force feedback 2 joystick for 15 years now with all my simulation games.Īside from the force feedback technology-effect that i love the joystick is great as a joystick alone.
